We used a pattern of warm and cool colors to complete these oil pastel drawing.
The students viewed artwork by Native Americans. They learned how the Native American hand print
were not just a record of who they were, but a form of their art as well.
The students each used their hand prints to sign their drawings.
Notice how the warm colors; red, orange,and yellow advance and the cool colors blue,green ,and purple descend. The color effects create an optical illusion.The kids loved this trick and the opportunity to use the new medium, “oil pastels”.
